These dyed dentalium shells, sized between 1.5 and 1.75 inches, are sold unsealed to keep costs down and give you the freedom to choose your preferred finish. The vibrant dye needs proper sealing to prevent fading or running when exposed to moisture. Be sure to follow sealant instructions carefully—while sealing, the dye stays wet as the sealant dries, so avoid touching the shells during this process. Tested with Krylon finishing spray (which dried to the touch very very quickly & performed beautifully), sealing offers good moisture protection but did not guard against glue during testing, so handle gluing with extra care
